Celebrating 5 years of volunteering in San Marcos de Tarrazu, Costa Rica – Fair Trade Coffee Alternative Break – R.A.W.

RAW is celebrating our 5 year anniversary of working with the enchanting community of San Marcos de Tarrazu in Costa Rica. We wanted to put together a brief video to recognize, thank, and honor everyone involved in our past projects, volunteers and local residents alike. In addition, this is meant to be a showcase of the dedicated hard work our previous volunteers have put in to this region as well as a chance to expose outsiders to the remarkable community and people of Tarrazu who have made this all possible. For new potential volunteers we hope this gives great insight in to what you might experience during a winter or spring alternative break.

We have forged long standing partnerships within the Tarrazu community, one of which being the San Guillermo School. For individuals from more developed countries, such as the US, it is hard to fathom the conditions that children in these parts of the world live in. Students ranging from the ages of five to their teens all attend a shared classroom and have extremely minimal resources. Our community service projects here range from building sustainable gardens, constructing playgrounds, teaching English in schools, and various other developmental and operational initiatives; the whole mission being to raise the consciousness of this community and help improve the local’s opportunities and quality of life.

In closing, our hope is this video will bring a smile to your face and your heart and inspire you to get involved in one of our projects or at least volunteer within the community you live. Again, a giant THANK YOU to everyone who has been involved and contributed to these projects! Muchas gracias y PURA VIDA!
